One of the most transformative, Spirit-led decisions I have made was editing the title of an emotionally healing and moving piece I wrote three years after surviving a near-death experience and overcoming outstanding hurdles early in my graduate school journey. Within the work, I released long contained frustrations and made sense of my personal traumas in a meaningful way. As memories I had spent countless conversations recollecting with others finally spilled onto the pages of my laptop, I found true healing.
I titled the blogpost “My First Year of Medical School was Hell”.
It’s interesting to see how many of the perspective-shifting thoughts shared in blogposts over the last several years have transformed my reality (more on this, perhaps later). I am proud of who I have become. In many ways, I have evolved into the woman I have always dreamt of becoming. Trauma may have labeled many chapters of my life over the past decade, but I get to re-write those labels. And you can too.
Five years later, the Lord would call me to rename my blogpost “It Will End in Victory”.
Not long after this shift, I would finally pass the licensing exam it took me several attempts to conquer.
I may still be dream-chasing, but it’s with a strengthened heart. Many of my personal aspirations deserve applause, even if only by an audience of one. No matter who or what may try to shame my personal challenges or accolades, I’ll always be proud of the perseverance that led to that passing score. Nearly a year later, I’m still shouting praises of gratitude from the mountaintop it took eight years to climb.
One day soon, the medical school chapter of my life will end. But for now, I rest assured and in faith that it will end in victory.
In what areas of your life do you need to speak life into, or re-label?
